Chaturdashi (Sanskrit: चतुर्दशी, romanized: caturdaśī) is the 14th day (tithi) of the waxing phase or waning phase of the moon in the Hindu calendar. This is the day prior to new moon (amavasya) or full moon (purnima).
Naraka Chaturdashi/Yama Chaturdashi/Kali Chaudas
Also known as Choti Diwali, this festival is celebrated the day before Diwali. It is dedicated to Lord Yamraj, the Lord of Death. It is also a celebration of the victory of Lord Krishna and Goddess Satyabhama over the demon king Narakasura. Devotees take ritualistic oil baths to symbolize purification and new beginnings.
Worshiping Goddess Kali on this day is believed to relieve mental stress, bring positive energy, and give the blessing of victory over enemies.
